I think Barbie gives girls more a negative image concern, at least Bratz are curvy and full. Barbie is bone-thin and anorexic.

The GI Joe doll would take Barbie home to mom.....he would only take Bratz dolls to the bar.

When I was 14, Twiggy was the big thing. Made me think my 5'6" 130 lb. body was totally disgusting! Now my 15 y.o. thinks her 5'8" 128 lb body is too fat! it starts with the dolls, then the medias promotion of the models, actresses, etc... But I think this is seen much more in white America. My 17 y.o. daughter is 5'3" and weighs nearly 150. She does not look fat, she is just very curvey and voluptuous. She pretty much just dates black guys and she feels just fine about her looks and her body. Of course she is also the one with the 4.00 grade point average, so it may be the fact that she has a lot of common sense and self esteem from being so smart, but I think some of it is cause black guys seem to not want their girl friends to be sticks. Much healthier attitude IMO.
