I'm a bargain shopper and typically pay no more than 25.00 per dress.
I usually pay around $7 for a dress where I shop at the Salvation Army.

I am loving the maxi dress trend! I find long summer dresses to be very versatile. I wear mine casually with flipflops during the day or around the beach, I can put on some jewelry and cute wedges and wear them out at night to look dressier. Also I think you can get away with wearing them into the fall easier than short dresses, they look really cute with the cardigan or cropped shrug.

One more thing to trip over, LOL.

The longest I like is an inch or two above the ankle.

Okay, question - I like the look of some longer dresses, I'm 5' (when I stand really straight) - BUT!!! can they be worn w/any shoe that isn't open toe? (I have some ugly feets, LOL).

You could definitely wear most of those dresses with closed-toe espadrilles! Still cute and summer, but hides your feet!

closed toe espadrilles - Google Image Search

If you don't want to wear heels, you could also wear ballet flats as long as they aren't too dressy, go for something more summery!

When I heard that both the return maxi dresses and the return of Roman sandals were going to be the new trend I almost flung myself out the window. Been there, done that and did not want to go that route again. Buuuuuuut. Seeing the cute new styles and how cute they go together, especially with a really cute floppy hat, made me run out and restock the wardrobe and I am so glad I did. Sometimes the fashion horrors of the past can be corrected!

I wore lots of long dresses the first time around in the 80s. I was in my 20s and I looked super sexy. However, now that I'm in my forties I'm going to leave it to the young girls.

Middle aged women cannot rock a long dress unless they are in exceptionally good shape--the dresses kind of scream out that you're not wearing anything underneath and there is lots of bare skin....

hey now, speak only for yourself.
I can rock anything I wear and I'm 53.
What do you mean they scream you're not wearing anything underneath? Do you not wear panties??

Maybe she means see thruability. As in standing in the direct rays of the sun, if it is sheer, one can see everything!
