Thread count doesn't mean much these days, it's just a marketing ploy. I have a couple of Waverly 400TC sets and they are way softer than any 1000TC sheets I own (they felt sort of soft in the store and I hoped they would get softer after I washed them, but they never improved and feel like sandpaper on the skin.) It all depends on the yarns used.

bek some people really like to spend money, it is sexually exciting for them, they are called compulsive spenders.
unless a hamburger costs 50 bucks it does not taste right.

I won't get any other type of sheets now that I've gotten bamboo ones. Way more comfy than high thread count pure cotton ones, just a good feel.

I am getting sick of crappy pillows, though, and I don't think it's really correlating to cost. When I cheap out and get the basic model, they flatten quickly. But when I upgrade, they really pretty much flatten out just as quickly. So it's just not worth the extra money. And I HATE the memory foam pillows.

You know I'm glad that I asked about this - had no idea that there was so much to know about pillows!

I've gotta agree, Tabula - most new pillows flatten out after the first month for me. Hopefully I'll grab some good ones soon.

Did anyone from here win the contest btw?

Thank you ImportersWife! I feel much better now.

I'd get so excited to find 400 thread count pillow cases on sale, only to find them kind of fuzzy and pilling in a few washes .. (turn them inside-out)

and yet, still have sheets of 400 thread count from 25 years ago .. getting 'very' thin mind you, but they seemed to last forever and wash so well.

Just when you think you have it all figured out ..

High thread count sheets need washings to be their best. But you do have to look at what the thread is made of as well.
