Stay away from flip flops I say. If you're going to wear sandals get quality sandals that are properly secured to your feet and don't make obnoxious slapping sounds as you walk. And avoid wearing socks with them.
Personally, I can't stand sandals and guys in sandals are a turn off for me. Luckily my SO only wear them as swimwear and only wears boots otherwise. For me I've always found sandals uncomfortable.
I don't care what guys wear, but if they go for open-toed shoes, they need to get a proper pedicure. Nothing worse than fungus-ridden cracked yellow toenails.
If you're gonna show your toes, take care of them. This applies to women, too. I loathe socks, and put on my sandals for the season as soon as it's humanly possible to do so, but I wouldn't ever wear my beloved sandals without proper foot attention. Feet can be pretty ugly if you don't prep them.
I think it depends on the guy, his age, and his style.
I like the classic Docksiders with out socks for a preppy/conservative look.
I also like Keen sandals on rugged-outdoorsy types. Keens are nice because they hide ugly toes. Great for women on those days when you don't have time for a pedi as well.
It depends on where you live and how your feet look. If you take care of your feet & live in a sandal / flip flop friendly place (like SoCal), then go for it.
I think anyone with ugly feet should keep them covered. And men should never wear sandals. Flip flops are ok at the beach or pool but to go elsewhere? Ew. Men's feet are too ugly too pull this off.
And while we are at, nobody, and I mean nobody, foot models included, look good in Birkenstocks. They may be comfortable but they are the ugliest things man has ever created lol.
