Does urban fashion only cator to hispanics and blacks? When I look through a south pole, brooklyn express, or rocawear website or ad all I see are black and hispanic models. So does this mean those brands are primarily for blacks and hispanics? I mean I didnt see one white model. South Pole had one ad with celebs, but I dont think they were used as models for Fall 06. I know ecko untitled has some white models, and Marc Ecko was white so his clothing must be for everyone.

can some one please help me out, thx

Clothes are made for whomever decides they like them and wears them. Don't get stuck in the stereotype that certain brands are for certain people.

They advertise towards the minority community but that doesn't mean that minorities are the ones who these brands are primarily for. This white lady at work, 60 years old, rocks Baby Phat jeans. When she came in one day with some on, I was . It literally cracked me the hell up! She rocks those jeans, faithfully, too. Those must be her fav's.

This is similar to the whole Ambercrombie and Fitch debacle. At the end of the day the designers have a view of who they think best embodies their clothing and the store usually follow suit when they're marketing their clothes. The good thing is marketing strategies constantly change (especially with their consumer base changing) becoming more diverse in their use of models.

If you want to wear the clothes, buy them!

am i right to say these clothing brands match these styles?

south pole and rocawear-ghetto style for guys and girls
ecko untitled and ecko red-big city style for guys and girls
zoo york-city for guys

so what would be a girls city brand?

I mean, they may be considered ghetto brands, but I wear them all.

My favorite jeans are SouthPole. AppleBottoms are embarrassingly, too small on the butt for me. I love Baby Phat everything (it's that little cat! I'd buy anything with that stupid logo.. ) My only problem is they're too tight in the hip for me many times.

I'm a 5' 3" nerdy white girl, and it really throws people for a loop when they see me wearing those brands. But I like them, they're comfy, and cute!

I have a 17 year old son who will wear only South Pole. There are brands he says he can't wear due to them being considered only for black people. It's not that he doesn't WANT to wear them because the designs are great....but it crosses some social rule that only teens seem to know about. It's taboo.

So, I understand what you are saying. You have to find whatever works for you and the people you hang out with.
