I have recently noticed that my skin is darker above my lip. I don't know how noticable it is to other people, but to me it looks like a mustache! It's not hair, it's skin. I have tried applying cucumber juice, lime juice, and lemon juice, but I see no change. Has anyone had this problem and tried the juice? If it worked, how long did it take? Maybe I haven't been patient enough.

If not...does anyone have any other ideas for making this area lighter? (Not laser, I mean relatively cheap and quick fixes!)

I noticed that happened to me a few times. The only times it occurred was when I used "Puff's Plus With Lotion" tissue when I had a cold. I no longer buy tissues with lotion on them. I don't know if this is your case, but maybe it's caused by some kind of face product you're using, or lotion?

For me, the darkness usually went away within a couple of days after my last use of the tissue.

Sounds like melasma (you can google that to read up ).

Usually caused by a combo of hormones and sun exposure. Are you pregnant? Did you recently start or change birth control pills?

I had this problem for a few years. It was absolutely horrible and nothing worked. The sun will make it much darker so use a sunscreen with zinc oxide.

So eventually it went away?

I am definitely not pregnant and am not on birth control. I have Googled melasma but it just doesn't seem like it would fit since it's not patchy...it's just right where a mustache would be. Grr!

I've seen this before and I think it's fairly common - especially after pregnancies. I saw a product from Bliss Spa in NYC that helps with it. I can't remember the name. Look at their website or catalog and call their customer service rep to see if they can point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

I've noticed that Laura Conrad on The Hills has the same thing. Anyone notice it too?

I just looked her up and you are right, although I'd never be able to tell if it wasn't pointed out to me. If she can't fix it then I guess I'm really doomed!

The Bliss product is called "Spiff Upper Lip." It's $38. Like the OP, I am not on birth control and haven't been pregnant, but I got meslasma on my upper lip after forgetting sunscreen for one day while on vacation. Really sucks, cause I don't have a 'stache, but have a bit of a dark shadow. I can't say I notice much of a difference yet, but I am going to keep using it and see what happens. If no improvement, I might go to the derm for a peel.
