i wear hats all the time, mostly baseball style hats, it's got nothing to do with me being cool or a fashion statement, I like wearing a hat and i'm not bald but it keeps my eyes shaded and my head cooler, if it keeps people from talking to me then thats another plus.

It has to do with the fact that not too many men wear them anywhere else.

1) What's that got to do with anything?

2) You'd be surprised where else you'll find baseball caps.

Have you ever socialized with such people and how did they turn out?

I don't try to be cool by wearing a baseball cap... not my thing...
They're followers. Just like the tattoo set. If you appreciate people who like to be different, avoid both groups. The new "punk" is not wearing baseball caps and not getting tattoos or pierced. Once middle age housewives starting doing it, it's lost it's cool.

The new "cool" is wearing a hat if you damn well feel like it and not wearing one if you damn well don't. In fact, that's kind of always been the actual "cool." Image-consciousness is image-consciousness whether you're consciously trying to follow trends or consciously trying to rebel against them. Neither makes one any cooler than the other, and judging someone else's image-consciousness from your own position of image-consciousness is inescapably silly.

Its all in the mind, wearing a cap is not cool. Its just a modern day Feodora, except that the men who wore Feodoras had more respect and some were gangsters, while cap wearers are anti social gangbangers who think they are Al Capone when they make a $1000.

I wear a baseball cap most of the time unless I'm in dress up mode.
It isn't to look "cool" or to send any kind of "anti social, gang banger, Al Capone" message.
I started wearing one years ago to help keep dirt out of my hair from the job I did.
Then when I got old enough to need glasses I found it keeps the rain off them so I can see. It kind of became a habit.
I don't really think anything of it or catogorize anyone else who wears one. I don't wear mine sideways or backwards.
And if anyone judges me by the fact I wear a baseball cap instead of my deeds, then they can kiss my asparagus.
Anyone who judges people by wearing caps have bigger problems than the guys in the baseball hats.

I agree. I proudly consider myself a modern punker bohemian. Im not a part of any of this nonsense. If anything I'll wear a fedora. I am also extremely proud of not having any tattoos. And, I do not wear flip flops or sandals. Any women between the ages of 25-37 feel free to send me a pm. I will relocate.
