Because your post is here rather in hobbies forum, may one assume that you are looking for fabric for garments rather than, say, quilting? There are many online sites out there. I run across them frequently while searching for quilt fabric. If you are looking for a particular type of fabric or a particular color, do a Google search. You'll be surprised how many come up, sometimes though, you may have to weed out finished products made from the same fabrics. Here are some either I or my friends have purchased from.
GStreetFabrics.com in Washington DC has an online store. I was amazed at the variety of fabrics of all kinds and the classes on "real" sewing they do all year. It was a stop I made whenever I was in DC.
My mother bought fabric from them back in the 50's. It is a fabulous store. It is popular with our Canadian friends in Windsor who come for bridal fabric. Lots of bridal/prom and lots of home dec.
