Not sure if all you folks have seen this.
Thought it is pretty enlightening - and pretty sad.

It's been posted here before, but I think it is worthy of being bumped up.

I don't mind the makeup part. It's the "special effects" I find appalling.
The end result is that the person shown on the board doesn't even exist.

At least it shows how fake the models in the magazines really are.

EXACTLY.
I'm not complaining about the video - the purpose of the video is to do just that - show how fake these "perfect" models are (that all other women judge themselves against).

It's a GREAT video - it's the situation it's highlighting that's so appalling.

They do not tweak every model that much. Models that need a ton of editing really do not get that much work. Personally I freaking HATE this ad theme....Its like calling anyone who looks like that not real...WTF? I have actually done printwork and no one I lived with or myself had that much touch up stuff going on. I call dramatization for impact and marketing.

What are we going to cry for all the short guys that will never make the NBA?
I really feel its the same deal. Women need to start finding identity and value beyond looks instead of calling people they do not look like "fake" and demonizing them for their own self hatred.

And what REALLY just TOTALLY irks me.....Dove pulls this like its being PC & caring & connecting...BS! Its called marketing and they are only putting it out there to connect with a growing market of vanity addicts in all sizes, shapes and colors. They don't care about crap but what they can take out of your wallet.

That was the first time I had seen that video - thanks for sharing that. Isn't it sad how so many people these days place so much value on false appearances?

Editing is used to make models appear more flawless but they're generally good looking and photogenic to begin with! Plus, let's not forget make-up and lighting! You can see common photographs of the majority of models and they look exactly like they do in magazines, sans makeup.

The overall perception of beauty is getting so twisted out of proportion, everyone is trying to enhance themselves in some way because 'natural' doesn't cut it.
