Is that a manpurse?
Totally not!

Do they come in black leather, big enough to hold either a .50 cal desert eagle, or a .45 1911?

If so, I know what I am asking for this year....

It must suck having such a narrow-minded view of the world. Half of the guys on my University campus carry messenger bags. Nobody questions their sexuality.... They are extremely convenient for carrying school books.

How is that "narrow minded"?

A messenger bag is basically a soft briefcase, no difference.

A purse is what women carry.

I love my Timbuk2 bags. I have three now. And I'm female.

Don't forget Chrome and Crumpler.

Other women collect handbags. I guess I have a messenger bag addiction.

Didn't bother reading through any post except the last few.

A manpurse otherwise known as the "murse" or "european male carry all" is something that the Italian and Belgian guidos/gangstars/chavs own and wear. . . and the French because they are.. just French. This is usually something slightly larger than a wallet with a thin strap, usually put over ones neck entirely to hang in front of the carrier or over the shoulder to hang from the side like a messenger bag. Also, most manpurses that these culprit individuals carry often are fake Lacoste or Burberry. Some people would say that something slightly larger, the size of a DSLR camera bag would be considered a male carry all / murse. I should go out into the city and try to snap a photo of this this weekend. Anyways, here is the best I could find..

A purse is something that a woman carries or a women asks a man to carry. Some of my friends have asked me to carry around their purse or baby bag and I did. I carried a purple baby bag around all day at a mall once for my friend, not once did I act like it was "gay" or that I was "afraid" of carrying it. I didn't care if people thought I was "gay" because of it, because I know I'm not =).

I think everyone knows what a backpack looks like.

A messenger bag is not a man purse or purse. A messenger bag is something a postman carries or a University student. Those are just examples. A messenger bag is essentially a backpack, but more of an alternative and 'grown up' version of a backpack.

A briefcase is something a business man carries. A business man or someone going to work isn't going to carry a backpack/schoolbag since these two items aren't generally thought of as "professional". Hardshelled with handle for important paperwork, laptop, etc.

A satchel is just like a brief case, but often is soft and has straps. The "handle" is generally longer and made of soft material so that the user can sling it over his/her shoulder. This is not a purse or a manpurse, however I personally would not buy or wear one.

I carried a messenger bag once... and it was to a rave party my friend was having. I carried a couple cartons of ciggies to sell to people.

Here in the Netherlands people actually do carry grocery bags. Grocery stores here (Albert Hijn, Plus, Aldi, Jumbo) charge money for grocery bags. So, most people here buy big, sturdy, reusable grocery bags and bring them to the store. Pretty normal here, but not really in the States.

What about a laptop case? The ones I've seen are generally soft-sided. And don't hold much more than a laptop and perhaps a few peripherals (mouse, cables).

Haha, yeah well my opinion... is that a laptop (i almost typed laptop purse, haha) case isn't a 'man purse'. It's for a laptop to carry and protect it. Of course you can't carry a laptop around without some sort of bag.

I don't know why so many people think briefcases, laptop cases, messenger bags, and backpacks are manpurses.
