I've never understood this rule. No one ever explained to me the "no white after labor day" thing.
Also, I've never owned a pair of white shoes, so no, I don't wear white shoes after labor day.
I'm with the other posters who said they don't even own white shoes (other than tennis or running shoes). There are so many other light/neutral styles that are much more flattering to the feet and legs.
I can't even remember the last time I wore white shoes/sandals. Only sneakers and then not too often.
But I do remember hearing that old rule. Who cares-What ever floats your boat. If it coordinates with what you're wearing who cares- or for that matter who should care as long as your happy!
Wow a simple and etiquette question that even Oprah has asked many times and some of you have to attack.
NCN-I had always heard that rule and adhered to it. I, like you, thru school, first jobs-no pants/slax-always dresses or suits/heels/hose. Maybe for some reason we were better off as we learned "class".
As far as white-I really don't own any anymore-but my "total lady G-Ma" would be appalled if we wore white after Labor Day.
It's not just white shoes - it's white slacks, shorts. jackets. coats. I guess it's never been a real issue since by Sept 1 I'm ready to put away the summer stuff and get out the fallish stuff. But as someone else mentioned, it's something you learn early and it sticks - I have no reason to want to keep wearing that stuff after Labor Day.
