If You Must Know: Why Shouldn't We Wear White After Labor Day? - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090908/us_time/08599192068400 - broken link)
As mentioned earlier I don't even own white shoes. And I agree it's about the fabric and the weight of garment.
I have a silly retro- Hawaiian print skirt I wear in the summer. I'm pretty sure I wore it for the last time this weekend. I'm in the Midwest and the days are getting grey and cool and pretty soon the leaves will start to change.
I'm more of a Fall person anyway. I'm excited to get the wool sweaters, tweedy skirts and tall black boots out again.
I'm baffled. Never in my life have I heard about this "rule."
Are you under 40 or so, pink squid? Don't have to say, but I suspect the ones of us who have seen a lot of candles on their cakes such as myself, are the ones most familiar with this proverbial fashion "rule."
Seems to me, incidentally, I remember when Fergie, the duchess of York, visited the US in November, she wore white shoes and was soundly criticized for this!
People followed this trend in Texas, where I was born and grew up, but on the west coast and in the pnw I don't think anyone abides by these crazy "rules".

Yeah, I'm in my mid twenties, so maybe that's it.
Where I live we really don't have seasons--so that's probably why too!
Someone cracked me with the comment about the white shoes looking like boats on bigger feet Maybe this is one time when I'm relieved that I have smaller feet ? I'd be so mad going into stores and trying to find a popular shoe but they're all out of my size but have plenty in 9's and 10's.
