After multiple acquaintances raved about OCM (oil cleansing method, which uses plant-based oils to draw sebum from facial skin), I tried it over the course of about a month. No dice. It made me an even worse oil slick, went from combination skin moderately oily in a few places to full-on greaseball. It obviously works well for some people, but I'm sure not one of them.
I found black soap to be really drying. I had heard so much good stuff about it. I used it "as is", meaning, I didn't try to add any exotic oils to it. Used it just the way it came to me and it dried my face something terrible. Did the same to my daughter. I had given her some to try. She can't use it.
Shea butter is so greasy, I can't stand to use it. It tends to really dry out my hands even worse.
Cocoa butter is my stand by; I've never used anything else. My strongest suggestion is to check into my girl Queen Helene. You can buy a 32oz bottle on Amazon for mere dollars, it's not greasy, your skin absorbs it and it's a miracle smoother. Unrefined cocoa butter is also available, and although less greasy than shea butter, it's still pretty oily.
I use black soap with the shea butter and I like it but it is really drying and I only recommend it for persons with oily skin.
