Whatever is not too "grandma" yet is comfortable and warm if needed. It really depends on the situation, if it's a visit to someones' house as opposed to something you'll be wearing all day while working (and that depends on office, retail, etc.)

Wool, fleece, Gore-Tex. And I don't have to brush my hair, since it's hat weather. Function before fashion. No one looks good with frostbite.

Thick socks, boots, wool, and like tdna, Gore-Tex.

I have one knit sweater I bought last winter and I really like it so I'll probably invest in some new knit sweaters.
