If I have to dress up or do something "professional," Jil Sander. Beautiful minimalist clothes that always look good. All you need is good jewelry as an accent and you can go anywhere.
When not dressing up, Gap jeans (they make them long enough!) and vintage t-shirts: some from thrift shops, some from eBay, and some I've just accumulated.

"Place" shirts (different countries) and rock bands (AC/DC, Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Clash and others) "acquired" from older relatives. I also have a pretty good collection of t-shirts from (micro/craft) breweries from places I've traveled around the US, Europe and Asia, but those aren't really "vintage."
I have clothes from many different brands. It depends if the clothes look like they will be in style more than one season (I like classic clothes) and if they are durable. I've bought some high end stuff that fell apart and some cheap clothes I still have a few years later.
Mostly, I go for:
Levis jeans and some tops
Three dots
H&M
New York and Company
Express
most anything Kohls sells works too
I buy some on Ebay to get a chance to afford higher end stuff I like. Goodwill would be great too, if there was one near me!
