It is not displaying the penis, men in speedoes aren't walking around with an arrow pointed between his legs, oh please.
Besides you get more of a tan with a brief type of bathing suit as opposed to board shorts.

besides like other posters have said it is the equivelant of seeing parts of womens breasts in a bathing suit, (which I do not, nor want to see) thank you very much.......

Well, there is a reason we have the phrase, "camel toe."

I'm not offended by speedos and I wish this conversation hadn't devolved into the typical "OMG Americans are such prudes" comments. Speedos aren't fashionable, and they usually aren't flattering either. Probably 90% of the speedos I have seen in public at non-sporting events were worn by overweight, hairy men.

If you're not a competitive swimmer, what is the point of wearing a speedo? You're not shaving a tenth of a second off your racing time, so why wear one? Are they more comfortable than board shorts with the built-in mesh underwear? Probably not. Are you worried about your tan lines on your upper thighs? Are you, like a woman, putting the goods on display?

They're called Budgie Smugglers in Australia. Mostly worn by Surf Lifesavers, and our Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott. Tony gets a lot of flak for wearing them but then he's very fit, very active and they're practical for what he wears them for - sporty type events. I only have a problem with them when they're worn by guys who aren't so fit. Not so much for the fact that they highlight The Package, but the large belly bulging over the top of them. Same with women and mushroom tops over their low-rider pants. Let's not just stick it to the guys.

Hee hee ... "budgie smuggler." A budgie is a bird, right?

I agree with what you said. In all fairness, there are a lot of women out there wearing things far too skimpy for their physique.

Yeah, I do agree with you, if your not in a race or something.....
It is unfortunetly not the men with good physiches (sp) that wear them at the beach, but well...... men that shouldn't...,,,,

The times I have worn a brief type bathing suit, yes, for tanning my legs, I am not in a race.... I will say they are absolutely NOT comfortable at all. They dig into the sides of your legs, and .....

Board shorts are so much more comfortable. They are loose, they dry fast in the sun, you just have to roll them up a bit to get your legs tan, no biggie.

I am all finished with this speedoe thing....................

Yes, I think we've said about all that can be said about the speedo thing. I think you're right that looser bathing suits are more comfortable, and that many of the men who wear speedos have no business doing so, based upon the state of their bodies. But I don't think the outline of a man's package should be considered more offensive than the outline of a woman's breast.

I'm not the one who initially used the word "display"...I thought the word choice was odd. Am I offended by speedos? No, I just find them unattractive. And thank you Mooseketeer for chiming in - obviously it's just not an "American" thing (??). I also find short shorts unattractive on men and capris. For the record, I don't really want to see "camel toe" either. If a guy wants to show off his 6-pack though I'm all for it!

By the way, I have learned that the male equivalent of camel toe is "moose knuckle." Thank you, teenagers.
