I'm 30, female, and never wear sandals or flip flops. All of my friends wear sandals in the summer but I don't really care to show off my toes even though there's not really anything wrong with my feet. I also don't care to get my feet dirty. I bought a pair of flip flops once to wear out and was a little bit grossed out by the dirt they attracted. I just prefer to wear canvas shoes or gym shoes with no show socks when wearing casual clothes. Am I crazy?

No, I don't know any. That bare feet look seems to be everywhere. But I applaud you for resisting the trend and doing what feels right for you.

I have always been convinced that the sandals/zoris/open-toe look is a conspiracy by the shoe industry to charge us a lot of money for two or three little straps of leather and a cheaply-made synthetic sole. It's a ripoff! Give me real shoes any day. Shoes that keep your feet warm. Shoes that give your feet and ankles some support. Shoes that don't look like they cost 10 cents to make. You go, girl!

I'm 25 and I don't wear open-toed shoes. I have one pair of flip flops that I keep around for beach days, but other than that... never.

Like you, I don't enjoy seeing my toes getting visibly dirty.

I also greatly dislike seeing other peoples feet, and don't feel that I should subject people to mine. Haha

I MUCH prefer wearing real shoes. I do wear flip flops when I'm going swimming, though. I have to buy ones that have softer straps than rubber or plastic. Otherwise the part that attaches to the bottom of the flip flip by the arch of my foot feels like two rocks. It's really hard to find flip flops that are comfortable for me. I have a pink and yellow pair and a black pair, so half the time I don't even match, that's another reason why I don't like them. Mostly I just dont like showing my feet. There's nothing wrong with them, the few people who've seen them say they're cute but I'm just not very comfortable with it. When I'm at home, I wear socks 90% of the time. When I go somewhere, I think flats look the cutest, but if I'm afraid I'll end up at someone's house where I'll have to take my shoes off, I wear regular shoes with socks.

I see people all the time - and of all ages - that do not wear sandals, flip-flops or anything open-toed.

Well, my feet get sweaty in closed shoes during hot weather which to me, is just as gross and uncomfortable as a bit of dirt. I occasionally clean the soles of my sandals too. But wear what you want, it's not like people are going to look at your feet and think "my God, she's not wearing open toed shoes!"

What does age have to do with the preference for closed-toe shoes?

I'm not a huge fan of sandals (though I do own them) and I despise flip-flops outside of walking from the hotel to the beach, so I was really pleased when flats came back in a big way a few years ago. I've got them in lots of fun colors, and I wear them to work and on the weekends.

Too freaking hot here for most of the year to wear closed shoes.
If anyone is that freaked out about their feet getting dirty in sandals, put some wipes in your purse.
I love my sandals and flip flops, I bet I have 30 pairs.
