Hi All,

My husband got a new job in Walmart and we are moving to Bentonville area next month. Initially we were very excited about this move, but recently I heard about Tornadoes in the nearby areas. And also the heavy storms and hail is pretty common in Arkansas. That's make me very concerned about the weather. So, is it really safe to move to this area. Do anyone have an idea about Rogers & Bentonville area,is it a good place to live in with family as we have a kid also. And how is the living cost there means groceries, apartment rent and all. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Very scared of tornadoes. Please answer.

Bye.

Bentonville/NWA in general gets lots of spring storms, another peak in the fall too. Some houses have purpose-built shelters if that would help put your mind at ease. Shelters don't always work though. This year has been unusually bad I think, lots of headlines at least. To give some perspective, I've lived here 20 years and haven't once felt the need to take special precautions/shelter from a tornado. There have been many, many tornado warnings though.

Cost of living is low, as are incomes.

I would say it's very family friendly. Taxes are low-to-moderate, crime is low-to-moderate, generally good schools in the bigger districts...I'm less familiar with the smaller ones. The area is generally conservative, with liberal spots in Fayetteville and Eureka Springs. Very suburban feel to the general area.

The main criticism I have with living here is that there's a severe lack of "headline" things to do...no aquarium, no zoo, no major league pro sports, no important museums (may change shortly), no amusement park, no water park, etc. The only entertainment/bar district is geared to U of A college kids. If those things don't matter, come on down.

PS You're far and away more likely to die in a car wreck, from cancer, heart disease, suicide, old age etc than you are from a tornado, or anything else weather related.

Hey, we've been here about a month and would agree with the last poster. Very family friendly, but far from cosmopolitan. We moved here from Phoenix and Baltimore so it's a huge change for us.

Feel free to msg me if you have any specific questions, we're also here for WM, and have a small child (boy, 5) so we might be able to answer anything.

Jeff

This has been one heck of a year for NWA storms period, just like throughout the USA. We certainly have had more than our share this past week, but there have been no deaths and only slight damage in the BElla Vista, Bentonville and Rogers area. No matter where you live you face the posibilities of mother nature doing her damage. It can be blizzards, wind, tornados, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, excess heat, fires, whatever. So stop worrying. It is unlikely you will ever see a tornado. Hail damage is a concern, but I have never heard of anyone getting hurt by hail, damage to roofs and cars yes, but not people.

Both Rogers and Bentonville are great towns for raising families. You might want to think about renting a house or buying instead of apartment living. Apartments are not always the ideal place to raise little ones. As for cost of food, etc, much depends on what you are accustom to and where you now live.

Bentonville is a good area, but cost of living is really high there. The tornado season is pretty much over so you're fine until next year! It seems like the bad stuff tends to come to Central AR more than NWA.

In what context the cost of living is expensive? I never heard that before. Please explain.

you are going to find mostly singles and married couples living in apartments so you will not get the intercation with others as much as you will in a separaate house in a family neighborhood. There are many rentals available in the NWA area, probably even some you might want to consider to buy depending on your financual situation. Overall better schools are in areas that are primarily single family rresidentual and not multi family living. Remember, I am generalizing, there are nice apartment complexes that do have families but as a rule it is better to live in a single family neighborhood with other young families.

It depends on where you are living now. Overall the cost of living in Bentonville is anything but expensive. It may be considered expensive compared to some of the more rural areas in AR, but certainly it isn't expensive.
