Trust me .. everyone is very nice there and very accepting..no worries..especially for that!!!
The ones that grow up near Missouri or have family from other places (or came here from a Northern/Western state) don't.

Those of us who are natives of Arkansas or the South in general usually do.

Default :d

Hey, i wouldn't worry about your kids being accepted. I grew up in Fayetteville and lived there until i was 18, and i have almost no accent. I live in seattle now, and when I tell them i'm from arkansas they're like WHAT?? wheres the accent~! I had no idea you were a southerner! Hehe silly seattlites Course i have noticed, now that i live somewhere where i hear absolutly no southern accents when i get around friends that have one, i kinda have a little of my under the skin southern talk comin out. But most of my friends don't have accents either, aside from a few that have blaring excellent accents, i think there's nothin wrong with havin one! But yea if anywhere in Arkansas will accept someone from the north, it is definatly nw ark! Hope that helps ya some!

Well, yeah I guess the old people do...i.e. over the age of 50.
But my mother and I do not...neither does my fiance. I know this because I moved up to Seattle and people are soo suprised!
They say "ohhh you don't have an accent"
But yeah go to Alabama,TN...Kentucky.....they more then likely will.

BTW...I was born and raised there...I KNOW.

Not ture, sorry. I am 27 I was born and raised here, I have one, my husband is 30 same story, he has one. I guess alot of it has to do with where your parents were raised. My parents were both raised in rural Madison county and have pretty strong accents, not like what you would hear in Georgia but very much southern.

I also know alot of people here have tried to get rid of their accents and or spend alot of time around people not from here so in return they start to loose their accents.

My mother is 39 she dosen't have one...Born there raised there..still there.
My grandparents..(over 50) have one..born there raised there.
I guess it has to do with if you adopt an accent at an early age or not...sometimes you got it sometimes you don't.
Either way..this is irrelavent...to the OP that is...as I said earlier..not everyone has on born there or not...and people definitly won't dislike you if you don't have one..usually...

I've got a pal here in Seattle who's a native of Arkansas, and doesn't seem to have an accent, but is able to turn it on and off at will.

I can also turn my accent on and off depending on the situation. Southern accents are becoming less and less common in NW Arkansas...
