My boyfriend (who is an IT tech) and I are moving to Arkansas. However we haven't been able to find out where yet. We went to Hot Springs which was absolutely beautiful, however it was too crowded and difficult to get anywhere with all the traffic. I'm not religious or racist so don't care about any of that. All I want to know is where can we go that's not far from town so we wont have to commute (and it's not difficult to find a job), has a great nightlife, and great scenery, and not a whole lot of traffic. Too good to be true in AR?

Depends on your definitions, but if Hot Springs didn't work for you in terms of your desires, then you will be hard put to find that criteria in Arkansas.

In either place, you will be commuting. In either place, there will be traffic issues. Neither place has spectacular nightlife. Both places have great scenery.

What type of IT work? can he work from home? I used to work with a fellow who had a huge house in Orlando where he spent every other weekend, but worked in NJ during the week. Sometimes he even worked from Florida.

If your BF does software support, I think JB hunt was looking for someone.

Most people find work and then look for a suitable place to live, your approach is a bit different, but not wrong. If he can work remotely, then your approach should work fine and a young couple would enjoy living in Fayetteville.

This is so helpful THANK YOU! No we are deciding where to be looking for work before we move, we're just trying to narrow it down. Our goal is to be there before July. I think we decided on Maumelle. I know we're going to have to commute which is fine, I just hate really narrow roads with a lot of traffic. I might just have to suck it up though. We're going to be visiting Maumelle/North little rock area in a week or so to see what we really think. I figured in Maumelle we're outside of a populated city, however close enough to get a good job and have the night life as well. Also it's only an hour away from hot springs, where we can get the amazing scenery. Would you agree? I'm not going to lie I am extremely nervous about moving close to a city with almost 200,000 people but as long as we actually live on the outskirts I think I can suffice. What are your thoughts on this because I'm pretty set on it, however I haven't seen it yet. I REALLY appreciate the info.

Given your criteria and what you are willing to compromise on, Maumelle is a good choice. Little Rock will give you some night life. And Hot Springs is not the only amazing scenery in that area.

I used to drive through Hot Springs every week-end, about 8-10 years ago. Even then it was a nightmare. VERY PRETTY...but a pain.

NW AR is not known for its night-life. I'm sorry, it's just not. However, Fayetteville is your best option in that arena. I never cared about night life, bars, or clubs, very much. so it's perfect for me, this area, but if you care about that sort of thing, you need to balance your priorities...is cost of living, scenery, etc. more important to you? Or is night life? because in my opinion, we do NOT have both here. Of course, I'm from a dirty little town of half a million that had half a dozen casino's open 24/7, and I wasn't impressed. Vegas was nice. That impressed me well enough. Raleigh, NC was nice. I liked that. But NWA? No, I just can't say we compete in the night-life arena. Others may beg to differ...

I live in Bentonville. Taco Bell is open past midnight sometimes, and we have a 24/hour gym nearby. Seriously, that's about it other than Walgreens and Walmart and drive-up ATM's for "night life". I love the area, but again, night life was not my focus. Evaluate your priorities if you have high standards for "night life" (IE, you're from Vegas, Houston, LA, Raleigh, NYC, etc.)

Okay...I honestly don't know of any tiny towns of around 200K with night-life that is worth even mentioning. 200K is a sleepy rural spot in my book. That said...it really sounds like, after reading further, that Fayetteville might meet your standards of "night life". I recommend that you check it out. I keep hearing about "Dickson street" or something? I drove by it (well, a girl drove me by it) one day, and it looked like a decent area that you could do a friendly little bar crawl along maybe, so...?

I just don't know if Fayetteville has any true high-end clubs, etc. though. Everything else a bout it seems to fit your criteria though. I personally would steer clear of Little Rock. I personally view it as a dirty town without anything to offer compared to Houston/Dallas/Raleigh/San Antonio, etc. Similar crime and downsides, with less upsides, is my take on LR.
