COPD - Fayetteville (Rogers, Benton, Bentonville: new home, tornado, allergies)

I recently read that Fayetteville AR is highly recommended for those who suffer with COPD. I considered and have lived in a few states and know little to nothing about AR. I have the impression of tornados as a common weather event. If you have any experience with COPD, retirement, medical care in the Fayetteville area I would like to read your posts. Thanks.

BTW, a few years ago I read that living right on the beach would be excellent for COPD sufferers. I moved to Oak Island, NC in the winter and I loved it. Then came May and with it came the heat and humidity rolling up the coast from Florida. I found breathing difficult and soon left. I have read some people do better in humid climates and others in dry climates. I find I do best when I control the humidity in my home to about 40%.

I certainly can not advise you, but i will tell you, shortly after we moved to NM we knew 2 families that left NM and moved to our area, one to NWA, the other to MO because they knew from visiting, they could breath easier. Remember though, we do have humidity here during the summer; nothing like the Carolinas, but it does exist. I can also add, we see fewer people using oxygen here, than we did in NM.

As for tornados, don't worry; we do occassionally get a tornado warning and on rare occassions have very mild ones, but NWA isn't noted for them.

All of NWA, not just Fayetteville has great medical facilities. You might want to consider, not just Fayetteville, but Bentonville, Rogers and Bella Vista for starters. yes, we have good retirement activities as well. There is plenty to do in the community.

Medical care in this area is excellent, but I don't see anything that would make me think it's a good place for COPD'ers. It is humid, it gets hot, and allergies are killer.

I manage the humidity where I live for other reasons, but in my low-humidity area, it is 40-45%, and in the rest of my house, it hovers at 45-60%.
