Thanks for all the comments. We've had an offer accepted for a house on the northern end of Siloam Springs, and it looks like the closest chicken farm is about 2 miles away.

Good choice in location. Growing town for sure and only getting bigger. Buyer market now, but give it time they will inflate the house pricing once a good chunk of people start moving in.

"and it looks like the closest chicken farm is about 2 miles away."....today. You might be safe today, what about next year ? You are in Tyson's backyard, it is realistic to assume they will seek to grow the business via future expansion with new chicken factories. Did you check zoning ? Are any parcels close to your new home suitable to use for a new CAFO ?

What can happen to CAFO's during extreme weather conditions. link. Granted, NWA is much different geographically, and a similar situation is not likely to happen due to flooding, but what about tornados ripping through several chicken farms....?

Hope your new home turns out to be everything you want it to be.

You will probably still smell it when the wind is just right, but hopefully not very strongly or for very long at a time.

I think we all have to remember if we choose to live in a rural part of the state we stand the chance of dealing with agreculture and with that comes bad and good. No one can be certain what the next year will bring. I remember buying a home in No VA in the early 80s. One thing we loved about it was backing up to a greenbelt which we were assured was protected. Well it was until someone changed the zoning. That green belt became rows and rows of town homes. At least they were top of the line.

The house is in the city limits, and there are already several new subdivisions going up in the area. The city's future land use map has the whole area designated for low or medium density residential. My house is in the low density area.

I understand that there will be some odors from living amidst cows, horses, and even chickens. I'd much rather have them for neighbors than live in a subdivision again.
