My family is looking to relocate to NW Arkansas and alot of our family activities are centered around sports. Our kids are very active and competitive in sports. Which schools are the best for football, basketball and other sports programs? Which high schools do the colleges mostly recruit from - especially for football?

Also, which town has the best developmental leagues for kids? Thanks!

Springdale's high school football program has been outstanding over the years. That said, both Fayetteville and Springdale as well as Bentonville and Rogers have numerous sports programs available, for football, soccer, baseball, basketball and track. I really don't know about the college recruitment question, but I'm sure someone else can fill you in.

All I can say is: as for recruiting, if the kids are good enough, they will get offers regardless. OUr son played baseball for one of the worst schools in our district in NO Va. I won't go into detail as to why we were in that disrict. To make a long story short he was recruited by colleges all over the coutry and the same with pro teams. One of his friends, a football player had the same experience with football. It is nice to be in the better schools, but you can get results regardless.

In 2006, 'Sports Illustrated' magazine ranked Fayetteville High School as one of the top 20 athletic programs in the country. Fayetteville tends to be competitive across the board (boys and girls) from football to baseball to softball to soccer.

The local school producing the most division 1 football players has to be Springdale High School.

As far as development leagues ... hands down - Fayetteville with all the ex U of A athletes involved in the schools, Boys and Girls Club, city leagues, etc. The little league baseball program alone has several ex college players and a few former MLB professional players supporting the league.

Now that Springdale split its high schools I would say it's easily Fayetteville.

For someone new in the area, Shiloh Christian is the football venue that will attract the most attention for your football athlete. If for no other reason because the public schools and local press love to hate it when the private school adds yet another stud to their loaded roster. Have been in 7 State Championship games in last 11 years and won 4 of them. Won the National 7 on 7 in Hoover Alabama in 2006 and are among the elite invited every year. Small school environment with big time sports program. See shilohchristianfootball.com for what is one of the best football websites in the country for college coaches to view. State of the art video resources/professionals for producing your son's college recruiting videos. Has athletes signing college scholarship offers every year and is on the radar screen of recruiters nationwide because of notoriety of program. Girls' athletic program equally good with top basketball and volleyball programs, nationally competitive cheer squads, etc. Great band director. Top notch academic curriculum only limited by the smaller student body but regularly has students on scholarship at the likes of Harvard as well as other top universities.
