Does NWA have earthquakes? My son got a quote for homeowners insurance and it includes earthquake insurance. Do most people have earthquake insurance? Thanks

When we got our homeowner insurance for our new house in BV it included earthquake insurance. We did not expect this coming from South Alabama and Louisiana.

People often dont do enough research about the area they are moving to. The New Madrid Fault Zone is a major fault zone system in the US.

The New Madrid fault is near the Mississippi River. Not sure how much that would affect NWA in terms of actual damage.
Also there are smaller tremors in Oklahoma quite often.

The Ozark plateau that Springfield, MO sits on would protect us to some extent, but if "the big one" ever happens we're absolutely going to feel it and take some damage. About 20 years ago I saw the FEMA plans for that, and the gist of it was that St. Louis was toast and the plan was to evacuate survivors onto the open land east of Springfield.

We also have tremors now and again from the fracking in OK. A couple of them have rattled the dishes but not really caused any damage.

It would still affect it quite a bit since the soil is older and vibrations spread easier than out west:

I can see why earthquake insurance might be useful or even
necessary, but it’s probably not an event a person living in NWA should be terribly concerned about.
