Re: ..'never seem to have a distinctive style of their own'
Interesting points on 'copying'. The ref to music got me thinking though that some artists in that medium do have a singular style as they 'copy'. For me, Bryan Ferry who formed Roxy Musuc does many covers of songs. And as he sings one can pick up his 'interpretation' of the song and music. For me it would seem he has a distinctive' style. And perhaps it's easier to pick it up in music than in other artistic endeavors when copying.
This piece is very intriguing...I'd say it's assemblage, collage, sculpture, with experimentation of 3-D space.
A "sculptural" approach to Picasso's and Cezanne's search for incorporating different viewpoints and mass into one piece of art.
Depending on the vantage point while viewing this piece, it could be a pile of junk versus a beautiful work of art...a portrait, with incredible value changes and planes making up the image.
I'd call this one genius!
Enjoyed it very much...would like to see more unique art and experimentation like this!!!
