Dutch painter P.C. Wonder

Pieter Christoffel Wonder Biography
(b Utrecht, 10 Jan 1780; d Amsterdam, 12 July 1852). Dutch painter, active in England. He was largely self-taught, although between 1802 and 1804 he attended classes at the academy in Düsseldorf. In 1807 he established the Kunstliefde (Love of Art) Society in Utrecht together with other artists including Jan Kobell II. During this period he painted Time (1810; Amsterdam, Rijksmus.), a symbolical representation of a naked and winged old man in a strongly Neo-classical style. Wonder also painted interior scenes in imitation of the Dutch 17th-century masters.
I went through the encyclopedia of Dutch painters; it has about 390 names in it, ( including *unknown* painters,) but not this one, and no mentioning anywhere about this particular painting. Yet I'm pretty sure I saw it before.
What a mystery to me!))))

No Countryswan - that wouldn't be a reason; the other 390 painters or so in that encyclopedia on Russian site were Dutch. ( Oh... never mind....I see now that there were about 2,000 painters in Netherlands)))
Russians who are interested in art know European painters very well; Russian art itself is inseparable part of European art - it simply came later in history.
Russian painting is firmly planted in Italian school of painting ( although some Russian painters did follow style of Dutch painters,) Russian ballet takes its roots in France, and Russian classical music I think is really the continuation of German Romanticism.

Just off top of my mind - here is an example of Dutch ( rather than Italian) style of painting;

"Peter The Great interrogates his son Alexey in Peterhof" 1871

My favorite painting has got to be Starry night, mainly for the technique used in the painting but the blue colors used, are gorgeous. I have to say that although Frida Kahlo's definition of art was strange, I love a lot of her work! It was so dramatic and tragic all at once, kind of intriguing to me. And my other favorite is: Girl, with the pearl earring and the movie I loved too!
