So I have 2 longfin danios in a 3 gallon tank. One chases the other and the other stays in a corner or near the rocks. I don't know what to do, but I fear it may die from stress or disease if it stays in one corner. I plan on getting a 10 or 15 gallon tank tomorrow, could this solve the problem? I can't dump it in the lake because that's illegal and they will die in the cold water. I don't know if petstores accept fish. Not sure if I should keep them but a bigger tank is a temporary solution.

Danios are schooling fish, and if you have too few they will turn nippy/and or chase each other. You should have at least 5-6 of them. Three gallons is just way too small for a school of danios. Definitely get a bigger tank, and more long-finned danios. And definitely do NOT dump them in a lake for the reasons you mentioned. Pet stores will often take fish from you (for free), or you can list them on Craigslist, if you decide you don't want to keep them.

sound slike youve already decided on a solution, but if youd like to keep them, get yourself a 10 gallon tank and add another 3 long finned, leopards or zebras to the group, add some rocks/caves and either faux or real plants of various heights to break up the line of sight (while still leaving lots of upper open swimming space) and you should very quickly see a big change in their behaviour.

if you whent with a 15 gal you could also add a pretty 'feature" fish or 2 (gourami do well with danio)

danio in general need a group of 5 or more and planeyt of swiming space they are fast, and active (and can stress quieter fish) they do however live forever in my experience! very hardy (and beautiful) little fish.
