Peters' elephantnose fish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Used to have one I called 'Snuffles', used to bully all the other fish in the tank (it was a community tank) but had a lot of personality. When he/she wasn't harassing the others (it was probably wrong of me to let Snuffles bother them too long, as a couple died of stress ) Snuffles would hide in a hollow log, or in the plants. My elephant nose used to enjoy almost anything: most bloodworms and brine shrimps, but would also take flakes. I read in several aquarium books that they generally do not take flakes but I guess Snuffles wasn't too fussy.

After his/her death, I mounted Snuffle's dead body on the wall. Had to take it down because it was attracting spiders!

Anyone else kept 'em/had experiences keeping them?

Once I had this fanciful idea of buying a group and trying to breed them. As far as I know it's never been done in captivity before. Mormyrids are fascinating fish.

I was looking at one just last week, and wondering about them. They look like cool fish, I've never had one. I had to laugh that you mounted yours though, eww, and it attracted spiders?
