After discovering the Paludarium concept i did a bit of research and got the bug to build one, Hopefully mine will come out looking like one of these beauties=

So far i've taken my 55 gal aquarium=

And reduced it back to like it was new=

Next step is to create an entire interior out of Styrofoam, once it fits and looks nice i take it out and paint it then stick it back in the tank and glue it in place, then fill the tank with required plumbing, various flora, a few small fish..
Its going to take some time, feel free to give me advice, tips and tricks as i have no idea what i'm doing
thanks

I'm realizing that much of the Styrofoam is abutting the Aquarium glass,if left alone i can envision a lot of stagnant water in all the cracks.crevasses and those areas where the foam abuts the glass, Do i seal all these areas so the water remains isolated solely to the water feature of the paludarium? What would be a recommended sealer? I'm thinking of something like this stuff=

i always use clear silicone for any little cracks and spots that need filling, you can also add in drainage channels as your carving to encourage any errant water flow back down into the basin...

just remember with any kind of water proof sealant to apply AFTER paint as most paints wont stick to them.

The basic guts to it=

Next step some kind of waterproof modeling clay to smooth and shape it all to a finer detail.
Not sure what i need, something akin to an underwater plaster of paris. i;ll browse Home Depot today.

I tried the expanding foam, Glad i only used a little, gotta be the worlds most stickiest stuff, total mess ,think i'll stick with the concrete, now my hand is stuck to the mouse
Now looking for a thin sheet of something to build up the back, the local hobby shop has some styrofoam that would work but its going to cost me $50 for the small amount i need..

I've wanted to do a paludarium for years, no aquariums running now but I'm getting the bug again.

A little darker than i had hoped, hope lighting and plants will fix that i've also decided on pure white sand on the bottom/.
Next step plumbing.then some decorative features like wood and some rocks.
