When I was younger, my family had a fishtank, and I've always been fascinated by fishtanks, theyre just so beautiful and calming and they really make a room inviting...in March, I went out and bought myself a 14gallon with 3 goldfish and a pleco, then upgraded them to a 29gallon 5mths later, and I just moved a couple weeks ago (though 2 of the goldfish didnt survive the move....so as you can see from the pics, I have 2 tiny goldfish, and 1 large one....the large one was the same size as the tiny ones only 7mths ago, so I'm excited for my 2 new ones to get that big!!) and I upgraded them to a 55, bought a betta for the tank, and swapped out my fake plants for live plants. Well...80% of the plants in my tank are real, you cant tell which are fake and which aren't. But I love the way this setup turned out....I ended up buying the 55gallon tank, hood, and stand for $100 on craigslist, and another $50 for delivery....had to buy my own filter though...plants, filter, bubbler, and gravel set me back another $150, but I think it was still a good deal, considering I got the aquarium online for a good deal! Anyway, if anyone wants to share pictures of their aquarium as well as what fish you have in your tank, post here! I'm noticing there are not really ANY threads on fish at all!
I bought a couple baby blue crawfish a couple weeks ago, but made the mistake of putting them in the big tank before letting them grow, and also bought a dozen ghost shrimp....I thought they'd have enough room to hide, but I haven't seen any of them in a while, soooo...maybe that wasn't so smart on my part. I'm going to buy more, though, and just set-up my 14gallon again until the blue crawfish grow big enough to fend for themselves...I got them for a good deal on craigslist for $5each....normally theyre $25+, and theres nowhere in the area that even carries them, you have to order them online which costs a lot extra. Other than adding a couple blue crawfish to my tank, I dont plan on adding anything else...I know goldfish grow big and fast, so I want them to have enough room to live in there for a couple years before I need to upgrade again.

I wish I had a better camera, but heres some before/during/after pictures....I do want to get a couple big pieces of driftwood, too...it's just kind of expensive.

I know nothing about fish and tanks, but your tank looks so beautiful! I always like to look at them when I see one in an office or restaurant.

I gave up a twenty year hobby when I moved here a few years back. I thought I might not have time or the space for my 50 gal tank. Big mistake I miss my fish!
I am currently looking at options for fish by mail. I can travel about 200 miles to a walmart but not sure if they have good fish.
Might order online, wonder what the ups guy will think about that?
I agree about tranquility of it. If you get a good group of fish that tend to live at different levels of the tank you will enjoy it. Do make sure you do not have more than one inch of fish per gallon. Thanks for the photos.

Yes I used to drool over my dentist's salt water tank, I'd go in early so I could look it over

thats where i got mine...it was an impulse buy in the middle of the night on my birthday and they were the only place open hahah but i got lucky they were healthy looking...some wal-marts i go to, a dozen or so fish are dead and being eaten by their tankmates....that not a good sign!

I'm thinking about setting up a 2nd 55gallon in my bedroom, or even just a 29, and making that a community tank

I'm finally getting around to posting a picture of my tank However, since I have taken these pictures our mollies had around 50 babies!! The fish don't eat them so our tank is getting invaded with babies and I don't know what to do!! I can't find anyone who wants them and I cannot keep them all! And, I can't kill them, they are so innocent and tiny..

any suggestions??

I started off with a freshwater 5 gallon hex tank several years ago. Then quickly upgraded to a 16 gallon. Last year, when I moved, I upgraded to a 46 gallon tank.

I also tried doing saltwater (24 gallon cube), which was too much for me to handle as a newbie to saltwater (sold it before I moved), but I really loved the saltwater tank hobby.

But anyway, back to freshwater. Over the years I've had: various goldfish (comets, shubunkin, fantail, orandas), ghost knife (their faces look like little puppies to me!), cory catfish, loaches, pleco... ghost shrimp... oto(cinclus)... algae eater...

One of the goldfish I've had has been with me since the beginning (she's female, and has spawned a few years back... but can't seem to get her to spawn again...). In my current set up I have:

(the large female) calico fantail goldfish
a white fantail
an orange fantail that had black tips but has grown them out
gold & black pearl scale goldfish
bronze cory catfish
peppered cory catfish
kuhli loach
pleco

I'll get some pictures uploaded soon, but I do know I also have vids on youtube.

Call a local pet store and see if they'll buy them from you. Even if you only get pennies each, it's something and it clears out your tank some.

Great tanks guys. I love them. When the introduction room on our house is complete for the rescue, a big tank is one of the things I plan on putting in. They are very calming.
