I a baffled by the price of fish tanks. A standard rimmed 20 gallon long runs about 40 bucks, but a rimless is close to 200. The only difference I can see is that the glass is a bit thicker. So, why the high prices for rimless? I just paid 100 for a 4 gallon cube (though it did come with a small filter and 6 watt light).

Also, looking at lighting that attaches to the back of the tank, almost all is made for rimless tanks. It doesn't make sense, since most people have rimmed tanks.

Anyway, that's my gripe for the day.

They aren't really manufactured the same way. Rimless tanks tend to use a thicker glass of higher quality (low iron which eliminates that green hue). That alone is what tends to make the price climb vs the standard rimmed tank.

They tend to be purchased by more serious enthusiasts which is why the better quality glass is typically used.
