It turns out that your toilet has a very high consetration of clorine. When you flush a fish live down a tiolet the clorine acts like acid to the fish and slowly burns away at their little bodies. this is extremely painfull for the fish. I thought this was interesting and while im not appose flushing an already diceised fish down the toilet, maybe a live one is not a good idea. You are better off finding a pond or something and putting them there.

just thought i'd share this. I hope it doesn't offend anyone and its not meant to be. Im just hoping this will save some fish from a painfull death someday, even though the people who do it is totally unintentional.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I always thought that you were supposed to flush your fish after it was dead...

Im with the animal lovers on this one, it is cruel to flush a fish anytime. The best humane way is to chop its head off or freeze it in a container of water, it may sound horrible but its the quickest most non-painful way or you could just give it away

Yeah, I also want to know who flushes live fish down the toilet. I've never heard of people doing that. Is it people that just don't want the fish anymore? Newsflash: Most fish don't live that long and are not very difficult to take care of. Find someone to take it or just wait until it dies naturally! I'm sure said people also buy the tattooed fish as well!

I never understood why people flush their fish down the toilet. It seems like they don't really care that much, they must think that fish aren't feeling creatures. If I tried to flush someone's dead dog down the toilet, they'd throw a fit.

I just buried my little guy. RIP

Default Poor Fish

You have to be careful how you put an end to their lives or PETA will be upset with you.

^ Not just PETA, but normal people like me! I don't believe in PETA's radical celebrity hob-knobing hypocrisy, but I do get upset by the thought of flushing a live fish down the toilet. Heck, I think it's disrespectful to flush a dead fish down the toilet, but a live one...
