I just got a biOrb aquarium. So anyway, I've purchased the three fish for the first month and put them in and everything. The problem is that I got two guppies and one Cardinal tetra and I was wondering if the tetra would do ok for a month with out any other tetras. Also, when I get the other three fish in a month, if I got smaller tetras, like neon tetras, would they mix well with the Cardinal tetra (and also if it needs other tetras with it soon, would smaller types do, or do I need to get another Caridnal?) sorry I keep capitalizing cardinal. I'll stop.

In my experience (we have a tank full of guppies, mollies, and tetras) it doesn't matter what tetras you mix (cardinal or neon), they will still hang out. However.. having one alone is kind of sad. When we had just two they always hid in the back, very shy.. but when we got a few more they all stayed together and weren't afraid to come out and swim around! But, I am sure one tetra is fine, it will just be very lonely..

I guess it will be, but only for a few weeks.
I have decided I am going to buy another cardinal tetra. But, I have another question. If I have two guppies, two tetras, and then two either platys or dwarf gouramis, well, what would you (or anyone) suggest? Or should I just get three more tetra, or two more guppies? I really don't care how good they look together, I am just asking what would work more cohesively.

research Gourami's and Tetra's - they can be fairly aggressive and guppy love to breed ... a LOT!!

I used to raise guppy as feeders until I went to convicts as feeders (they get bigger faster)

Any type of Tetra is a much "cleaner" fish than any livebearing fish. I would stick with Tetra's. My favorites are the Black Phantom Tetra. Tetra are schooling fish and do best in groups of 3 or more.
