am planning on taking HWY 89 from Page, AZ to Las Vegas (via I-15) on nov 26

Anyone know if Hwy 89 is
1) 2 lane road
2) what the speed limits may be (45? 35? higher?)
3) has mountaneous terrain (got nausea related issues)
4) curvy road or straight road (got nausea related issues)
5) any closures currently (snow etc)

i am not planning to visit north rim (i will be taking 89 to fredonia and 389 from there to get on to I15)

thanks

89 is mostly 2 lane road. Speed limits on 89 probably average 60 MPH. Are you planning on taking Arizona 89 to Fredonia, or Utah 89 to Kanab, then south to Fredonia? The latter route looks like it bypasses most of the mountainous and curvy areas. I think it's a bit early for snow in those areas, but keep an eye on the weather to be sure. I think you'll be ok with this route, if you stick to Utah 89.

Right, there's also Arizona 89 which goes from Page directly to Fredonia, via Jacob's Lake. There's at least one pretty gnarly mountain pass on that route. There's definitely a pass at Jacob's Lake, and I feel like one more as well. Check it out on google maps. See if this link works: Google Maps

Edit: actually in looking at the map, AZ 89 goes near Page, but not directly to it. So it would be a poor choice on a couple of levels. So just go over the Glen Canyon dam, and follow UT 89 the entire way.

US Route 89 from Page to Kanab across southern Utah is 2 lane all the way. It is a bit up and down in places but not too twisty turny. The speed limit is 65 and snow is unlikely but check before you go. From Kanab drop down to Fredonia to 389. This is also 2 lane but pretty flat and 65 all the way.

The alternative, US Route 89A, from Bitter Springs, south of Page, to Fredonia is not a good choice in winter. US 89A crosses the Colorado River and the House Rock Valley then climbs almost 3,000 feet on to the Kaibab Plateau to Jacob Lake. It then drop down to Fredonia. The section over the Kaibab Plateau can be treacherous if there is snow.

For detailed maps and road descriptions, check the Road Trip Guides on the US Route 89 website: US Route 89-Border to Border Road Trip on The West's Most Western Highway.

The road splits at Bitter Springs into 89 and 89A. 89A goes over the Kaibab into Fredonia or to 67 that goes to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. 89 goed into Page to Kanab, UT.
