I'm planning to move to either Flagstaff or Cottonwood with the next few months. Of the 2, which is more accommodating to using a bike as a mode of transportation? And more specifically, which neighborhoods? How is public transportation in both locations, such as the bus system? Thanks for any input!

Do you prefer biking in really hot sunny weather (summer in Cottonwood) or snow (winter in Flag.)?

It was 97 here this week so it's hot for at least 5 months - personally I'd take Cottonwood over Flag. but it depends on what you're looking for and whether you need a job.

I am most definitely looking for a job. Is there any sort of job market these days? I lived in the Phoenix area for several years and the heat is driving me north. Sounds like Flag might be more suitable at this point?

The job market in Flagstaff is non-existant.

It is, however, probably the second friendliest bike city in the state after Tucson.

I agree that Flag is pretty good when it comes to being bike friendly. Cottonwood, not so much. I haven't seen much in the way of bike trails or dedicated lanes, and I haven't seen that many people riding in town.
I do see lots of bikers on 89a.

I should add that the west side of Flagstaff (Downtown and the neighborhoods around NAU) are incredibly bike friendly, but the east side of town isn't so much.
