Hi can anyone tell me about the hospitals in the Flagstaff-Sedona area? I am an RN and we are looking into moving from the southeast. Before I can consider this area I really need to know what my job prospects are. I am more interested in Hospitals and Surgery centers than anything else. Thank you dkrnusa

There is one hospital in Flagstaff, none in Sedona, or even a surgery center, that I am aware of.

Not completely accurate.

Cottonwood has a hospital (Verde Valley Medical). There is also a "campus" in Sedona that has 24 hour emergency service.

Neither of these are big, full-service hospitals like in Phoenix.

By the way- the Sedona branch looks like it's closed when it's open late at night. Made that mistake once and ended up driving to Cottonwood.

Have you ever heard of the Summit Surgery & Recovery Care Center in Flagstaff? It looks as if it is stricly orthopedic surgery and care. I am a 30 year surgical nurse and that is why I am being so specific. Thanks for your input.

I'm pretty sure there are orthopedic surgeries done in Cottonwood. I know a couple of orthopedic surgeons that work there.

You better make sure you have a job first. Funny with all the talk about nursing being in demand, try to get a job as one.And many find out the qualifications are very tough.

I am not sure if you are still looking in the Flagstaff area but I thought I would chip in my 2 cents. Flagstaff Medical Center is an excellent hospital and often has an opening or two for experienced nurses. It is well worth looking at. The Summit center is also a superb surgery center for mainly outpatient Ortho surgeries. It can be a little tougher to find a job at as it is smaller and many local nurses who do not like the demands of hospital nursing will look for jobs there. I wish you luck in your search.

Hospital Allied Health can also be downright degrading and demoralizing work, too. I'm specializing in Sleep Medicine and I have found that that line of work is indeed my calling. I may be going to work for Mountain Heart Cares, a small Cardiology specialty doctor's office in Flagstaff that is expanding. Hope I get it - Flagstaff would be a great place to live and work.

dkrnusa - good fortune to you in finding a nursing job. I truly hope you find what you are looking for in Flagstaff. We might both be moving there!
