I would not say that anymore! Cottonwood has come up a lot in the world, I believe it's a top destination spot in AZ now and full of great restaurants and wine shops etc. and it's close to nearby Jerome which anyone who has a Harley would like.

The COL in Cottonwood is not bad and it has more amenities than Sedona - I'd say don't discount it - it's lower elevation so a little hotter, but is also closer to Phoenix and Prescott if you like those places.

Default Rentals in Sedona

I am thinking of moving to the Sedona area by next summer. I have a possible job offer and it is in Sedona. I am a single parent with a 12 year old son. Anyone have ideas on best place to settle in? How are the schools? What sports are there? (Besides hiking and mountain biking - see that Sedona is great for those activities). I also have a dog and cat. Anyone know how easy it is to find rentals that allow animals?

West Sedona Jr. High is a good school but the students are clannish and class conscious. Big Park Elementary in the Village of Oak Creek has more working class kids. Both are performing schools by AZ state standards. Sedona Red Rock High School is the only public HS option other than a couple of wonky charter schools. It's a very well endowed and progressive school. My son went there by choice, he could have gone to Mingus High in Cottonwood and also had a full ride offer to Verde Valley School, a very small and expensive International Baccalaureate high school. He did very well for himself at SRRHS. The school has a very active sports program including a great swimming program, and the city hosts intramural soccer teams for players of all ages.
Most of the less expensive house rentals are in West Sedona. Can't speak to the pet issue. Haven't rented in decades. I know quite a few people who rent though, and most have pets.
