I’ll be traveling from LA through Barstow then Flagstaff on I-40 to Santa Fe. I’ve been watching the weather and it looks clear on Monday and Tuesday. Which day do you recommend? I don’t have 4 wheel drive. I do have all season tires. I’m hoping to avoid ice and the need for chains. Can anyone who lives in the area give me advice? Thank you in advance!

Monday and Tuesday should be totally fine for a passenger car. We're expecting more snow late Wed / Thurs.

Just so you know, all season tires don't mean much on compacted snow.

Flagstaff is at higher elevation than Winslow, Holbrook and Gallup. It's the coldest part. My "ice warning" sensor usually goes off in Flagstaff in late fall/early winter weather when coming up from Phoenix.

There is an AZDOT twitter feed that is pretty good about real-time road conditions. Also check AZ511.
I looked at those when a major traffic jam occurred on I-10 lasts Sunday. It blocked the road for about 2.5 hours and was absurd - a horse trailer crashed and the horse took off into the freeway traffic.

The snow on that range tends to melt more quickly. It can be snowy one day and mild the next. Just check that twitter feed or website for warnings. But drive carefully. Coming from CA, that whole stretch from Flagstaff to Santa Fe will be cold though. I drove from Phoenix to ABQ multiple times this fall and lately it's been freezing relative to Phoenix. The nice thing is that much of the drive is flat from Flagstaff to Albuquerque. It gets more hills around Santa Fe on I-25 though. NM was really cold for a couple of weeks in October then kind of rebounded to highs of 60s and 70s for a couple of weeks then dropped again.
