Where would you say are the scariest, dirtiest, ugliest parts of Florida and why do you feel that way?

Please keep in mind, this is a subjective question so it is YOUR OPINION.

That is why I am asking that you please give a reason WHY you feel the way you do about a particular area.

I'll start.

The area by the Tampa airport. Dirty, rundown, garbage all over the roads and sidewalks. There were stripper joints everywhere! I had to fly out of Tampa after being in Sarasota which was pretty much a quaint, beachy (very west coast like) safe, laid-back, friendly place to bums standing around the streets of Tampa holding signs for "food" money and walking right up to your car!

NW Miami...specifically Carol City and Opa Locka. It feels and looks like you might imagine Mogadishu or similar Third World cities would be like. Dirty and rundown, extreme poverty, lots of loitering....almost a better idea to run a red light at night versus stopping.

Suncoast estates in north fort myers. There is only 2 ways in and out of the place, no building is worth the land it's built on, never has been

Fort Myers Dunbar area. Orlando at Pine Hills(aka Crime Hills), Fort Pierce ALL OF IT... Melbourne on University Blvd. Those are the worst I have seen.

In the small town category- Perry. Horribly racist place, massive amounts of poverty, and surrounded by swamps where it would be very easy for people to just disappear.

That entire stretch of US 19 from where you get off I-10 to about Chiefland is pretty freaky- lots of areas that used to be something back in the 30s or 50s, and were utterly abandoned when I-75 was completed and all the highway traffic moved eastward, including any number of abandoned but still somewhat intact old school motor lodges.

Parts of US-301 going from Gainesville to Jacksonville, FL Absolutely backwards, redneck and poor.

Agree with the above post regarding parts of north miami, esp Liberty City

are you joking? Gainesville is one of the largest college towns in the country. Maybe you mean the surrounding areas, but Gville proper itself is actually a pretty interesting place because of UF. It's probably one of the most liberal and interesting areas in north florida.

One time driving up to Orlando,I chose to skip the highways and take US 27 which I had done many times before but once I got to the Lake Okeechobee area I took the east side of the lake (US 441) instead of staying on 27,the towns around US 27 are far from nice but Pahokee on US 441 felt like I had gone back in time 100 years to somewhere in the south. But the absolute dirtiest, scariest place I've seen was outside of Florida in Cincinnati,Ohio somewhere in downtown just a couple of blocks from the baseball stadium.I don't know if it was that it was Memorial day and everyone was out or if there had been a street party or what but everyone was outside, the streets looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a month, there were kids jumping on old mattresses thrown on the street,it was pretty wild and worse than anything I had seen in Florida.
