Regarding:
"Good words of wisdom. ...you certainly woke me up. Im in the the "start-over dream" category. I wanted to be OUT of NJ by July 2011; my husband says it's too soon; we argued, but now I realize he's right (he wanted to move June-July 2012). I've been all over FL via these posts. Started in Sarasota, then St Augustine, Vero Beach and now Palm Coast. I'm trying to figure out how to find jobs w/o making te move first. I was thinking we were going to live on savings until we got there, but I'm guessing this is a really bad idea Would love to hear about how others managed this."

Good question! I retired from a state up north after 30 years and have a nice income and health insurance. Since I'm only in my 50's, I also work for the State of Florida from home. My wife was able to find steady work after a lengthy search. But my retirement from up north is our real source of income and what we rely on. I don't think it's a good idea to come here unless you have a guaranteed source of income to rely on. Oh, employers, if you can find work, do not pay here.

Just want to let you all know that today I saw a flock of 70+ robins here in Palm Coast. It made me smile and happy to know that they escaped the snowy north to come to Palm Coast too, just like me!

The property taxes are very low, no state income tax, my car insurance dropped by 60%, homeowners insurance is very low. No huge heating bills during the winter. I do have to drive to Daytona for work but that beats taking the train every day and freezing my butt off. Those who say it is not safe must have lived in a fort prior to Palm Coast. Just make sure you have a job already or the income.
The very first question you have to ask someone if you trying to hear from him about PC is how old he/she is !
If you are under 35-40 Palm Coast is not for You!
1)Nothing to do,
2)No jobs,
3)Driving 2 hrs to Orlando or Jax to goto some consert/event sounds crazy
4) "0" business opportunity (unless funeral home or retirement house)

If you have an income and you have a famliy and you ARE older then 40-50 then you probably will like it

1)Great prices for houses
2)Peacefull surroundings/Nice Nature
3)No crime (compare to Jax/Orlando)

I repeat: Depends how old you are!

Hi there,

I've been going back and forth between moving to St. Augustine or Palm Coast, and Palm Coast is winning me over due to the housing prices. Aside from the touristy stuff and outlet shopping (neither of which I'd do all that regularly anyway) they seem to be pretty similar in their offerings, except I can get a lot more home for the money in PC, which is a high priority for me.

Anyway, I came across some info a while back on the different sections of PC as far as which are higher in crime and which aren't, but I can't find it, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight here, as well as any other up-to-date insider info you might want to offer. Thanks in advance.

We are thinking of moving to Palm Coast or Port Orange. How is commuting? Are there many tolls? How is the shopping. How about restaurants, golf?

We are looking at the same thing! I like the look and "feel" of Palm Coast, but we would probably have to work in Daytona. I live in North Myrtle Beach, SC now so I know all about the tourist areas! So we were thinking Port Orange would mean less drive for work. I don't need a gated community, just a nice, safe neighborhood with families.

I don't commute, but I don't know of any tolls around here between Palm Coast and Daytona Beach or St Augustine. The only tolls I've paid have been going to the Orlando airport and I could have easily avoided those if I'd have chosen a different route. Well, that's not totally true; there is a toll bridge in Palm Coast and they only charge the toll if you are going eastbound.

As far as shopping and restaurants, there are lots of posts here about that. We have a few "nice" restaurants, but most are quite casual. Shopping is mostly pretty basic--the marts, Kohls, Bealls and the like, but it's only about 25 miles north or south to for more extensive shopping and restaurants. I don't play golf, but there are a bunch of courses around here.

The crime data is here: https://www.crimereports.com/ It will take a few seconds to load every time you shift the map.

Dont do it...stay as far away as possible. The city sucks, the politicians suck and there is nothing to do but get bit buy all bugs and knats. The wild fires are terrible for your allergies. The cost of gas is outragous, and there are no jobs, Flagler County is #1 in state unemployed...Do yourselve a favor and look some place else to live
