I think it's good.

I live in broward county and rarely see asians.... Unless I go to the local Chinese take-out place, etc.
So, I'm looking forward to seeing more Asians aound. It does make the state more diverse, as it sometimes seems just Hispanic...... and that's it.

Bring the Asians.

But one of the most forgotten facts : the growth of the asian population is pretty big.

Asian population in Florida in 2000 : 260,000
Asian population in Florida in 2008 : 411,000
Growth : + 151,000 (58%)

Miami metro asian population in 2000 : 83,000
Miami metro asian population in 2008 : 114,000
Growth : + 31,000 (+ 38%)

Cape Coral metro asian population in 2000 : 3,085
Cape Coral metro asian population in 2008 : 8,050
Growth : + 4,965 (+ 161%) (Strongest asian growth in the nation)

Orlando metro asian population in 2000 : 42,000
Orlando metro asian population in 2008 : 73,000
Growth : + 31,000 (+ 75%)

Jacksonville metro asian population in 2000 : 25,000
Jacksonville metro asian population in 2008 : 39,000
Growth : + 14,000 (+ 56%)

What do you think about these numbers ? Did you feel this asian growth ?
Not really because I lived in San Francisco, which is about 33% Asian, but truly feels more like 50%. When you look at percentage of population, they still make up a very small piece of the pie. I hope more continue to move and open authentic restaurants and grocery stores. I miss that about Floridian cities.

I've lived in San Francisco as well many other major cities (Boston, SoCal, DC) and nothing compares to the Bay Area when it comes to the Asian American population, not even SoCal. It's a great testament to the rich heritage of Asian Americans in the Bay Area that they now have Asian Mayors, Police chiefs, and elected officials. The thing that got me even more is the Asian Americans in every facet of life in general there. Asian American cops, bus-drivers, attorneys, bankers, etc. You name it.

Yes Central Florida's Asian American population is grown quite considerably recently. I would say it's over 100k now.

Hopefully enough move here, so there will be authentic Chinese restaurants and dim sum restaurants. Currently, they are all the same, geared toward Westerners.

Yeah and doctors and lawyers as well. Asian Americans and Indian Americans as we all know are well represented in the medical and other professional fields. Ohh yes, our elected property appraiser is also Indian American and our other locally elected officials are very supportive of the Asian American community here. There a reason why the population is growing in Central Florida.

It is about time! Florida has been off the asians radar for too long. It is a shame they care coming here in mass now that I am heading out. I like the cultural enrichment that they bring to where they live.
