The 55+ gated communities that I've seen are lovely, but seem to cater to couples. This is fine, but my experience, and that of many of my single friends is that we need our own groups of mostly singles.

I'm happily divorced, and now spend much more time now with my single friends than with married friends. We have more in common and while I enjoy my married friends, it's often a drag to be tagging along with a group of couples.

The houses are lovely, but I haven't seen too many singles in these communities. Today's demographics of divorce are changing rapidly with more and more boomers divorcing after decades of marriage; 30 yrs in my case.

[I have my own theories about why this is happening, but it's not pertinent to this posting or this board.]

The question then is, where are they living? I'm over 50 now and I am wondering if I should rethink my plans of moving to FL?

I'm in the NY metro area now. It seems easier here to have a social life than there.

Am I missing something? I'd like to leave NY, but not if I'm going to be socially isolated.

Well, there seems to be a few of them here where I live. (Fernandina Beach.)
We are next door to a 50-something single lady, and there's another one across the street. There are a lot of couples, but the singles don't seem to feel awkward or out of place.
