I just moved from new york, and I love it here, because everyone is so nice. Unlike when in NYC, People will just stare at you and not even crack a smile, where as in florida, if some one at least stares at you, they will say hello, and start a conversation with you.

I like that.

I had a friend that said more and more hispanics are moving to florida, and they tend to treat the state like how they did when they lived in ny. thats by litering all over the place, just dropping the trash where they stand.

I must she she was right aboout they behave in NY. I won't say all hispanics, but its a majority.

[QUOTE;]Also, if it helps any, let me put Florida's top 10 largest cities, and rank them by 2005 C/D Crime index (from highest to lowest).Natl. Avg-325.2

1.Orlando (928.0) Central Florida
2. St. Petersburg (727.3) Central Florida
3.Miami (725.7) South Florida
4.Tampa (695.8) Central Florida
5. Fort Lauderdale (600.8) South Florida
6.Tallahassee (568.8) North Florida
7. Jacksonville (506.8) North Florida
8. Hollywood (383.3) South Florida. Plenty of New Yorkers and Hispanics, and a fairly poor city as well.
9.Hialeah (350.2) South Florida Over 90 percent Hispanic.
10. Pembroke Pines (211.3) South Florida. One of America's safer cities, and minority majority. Many of the whites there are rude and nasty New Yawkas and tons of hispanics

Interesting to see South Florida cities were at the bottom 3, and central Fla cities were the top 2.

Now,10 largest County crimes per 100k. State Avg. is 4,632 crimes per 100k.
1.Orange (6,347.2) Central Fla
2. Duval (6,081.7) North Fla
3.Miami Dade (5,964.1) South Fla
4.Hillsborough (5336.7) Central Fla
5.Pinellas (4,999.6) Central Fla
6.Palm Beach (4953.3) South Fla (Crimes mostly occur in the Florida born African American community)
(State Average, 4,632)
7. Volusia (4,337.5) Central Fla
8.Broward (4295.9) South Fla. Its full of rude and nasty New Yawkas like us too not to mention one out of 5 Broward residents are hispanic
9. Polk (4,237.3) Central Fla
10. Brevard (4,033.5) Central Fla

Broward seems to get knocked by EVERYONE for crime, including Palm Beach County residents. But why? The numbers show it to be near the national average, and about right for an urban area, not to mention below the Florida average.[QUOTE;]

I made this list all by myself, and just wanted to prove a point. My main goal in this thread was not to point fingers, but for everybody to simply unite as human beings and stop judging each other, as the numbers do not seem to be favoring anywhere with large ethnic or transplanted populations (or any type of population really). New Yorkers; there are good southerners out there, and Natives, there are good Hispanics and New Yorkers out there. Just treat your neighbor as you would like to be treated, regardless of where they are from, and the results may surprise you. . I do agree that people in Miami-Dade can be rude, and that the immigrants need to learn to speak English, but realize that some have learned the language and are very nice people. I have never encountered this extreme rudeness that people speak of in Florida outside of Miami, and I live in "congested, rude, and crowded" Broward County. IT seems as if people are nice to me here if you come with an open mind.
I hate to point this out, but Central Florida (Orlando, in particular) was very very safe before the "downpour" of illegal aliens, 'Ricans, and New Yorkers came down.

So where did Orlando's crime problem came from? You mean to say criminals just sprung out of a rock or something? Did they not come from somewhere?

True, there are good Hispanics, good NYers, good people of all walks of life. But you have to admit, that after the influx of people from out of state/out of the country started, that Florida started to have major crime problems.

It should also be mentioned that NYers get a lot of the blame for FL's problems because of their "overly passionate" attitudes and blatant displays of their love for NY, but you also need to remember that New Orleans, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusstts people have done quite a bit to make crime in Central Florida unbearable.

I actually think Orlando's problem is that because it became so transient, it attracted the worst of people from those places. Illegal immigration does have a lot of do with the gang activity(and you know how I feel about illegal immigration,NG), but not entirely. Orlando's problems were mostly centered around a shaky economy, weak police force, poor oversight, and the fact that since you have a new neighbor every other week, it brings a sense of mania in some its residents that make it the perfect mess for a high violent crime rate, and an attractive place for criminals throughout the United States.

Palm Beach County has a wealthy populace overall, but crime is high because there is a lot of mega inequality, and the majority of the youth tend to be on the poorer side of town. Youth crime in PBC is nasty, as you posted in your story a couple of days ago. Also, illegal immigration is rampant in PBC.

I think it's interesting to see Pembroke Pines was the safest of Florida's 10 largest cities , and one of America's safer cities overall. The city is minority-majority (Although there are not many illegals), and many of the whites living there are northeast transplants. Pembroke Pines might be congested, but it does not have the transient environment, weak police force, insane youth violence, and high levels of poverty that Orlando/ Orange County has. The people are well off, and thats the key to it.

Also, Broward is loaded with New Yorkers and Hispanics. How come it ranked 8 out of 10? Then again, in my day to day life here, you realize something. We don't have too many illegal aliens. Even in the restaurant kitchens, you actually see either Americans or legal Hispanics who seem to speak English as a first language (maybe not to their peers, but to the managers nonetheless). Even our roofer was a white guy with a southern accent (how bizarre!). It is true that a disproportionate amount of crimes are committed by the illegals, or in inner city african-american neighborhoods (like any other city in the U.S). Broward has a lot of non-inner city black neighborhoods though, and they tend to be as safe as anywhere (look up Miramar).IT has a lot to do with socio-economic class, the general structure of an areas population, and an areas history. Still, I do think the BIG decline here may only be a matter of time, just like most of the United States.

My family and I are from NY, and that attitude from NYers actually annoys the hell out of us. We are Floridians now. Just thought I would add.

I know! Thats why I found it ironic. At Bloomies out of all places. I guess its just my luck...

Regardless, I don't see this overall huge drain in customer service that people speak of here. I have had good experiences in Miami-Dade, and have few bad experiences in Broward and Palm Beach county. I have also never been a victim of crime in Broward or PBC. I have had gang encounters in PBC, and people try to sell me crack late at night in the ghetto of Fort Lauderdale(what do you expect), but seriously, even the crack dealers were mostly white guys with southern accents. Not saying there is any bias as to who sells crack, but a lot of people like to talk about how "Safe" and "Friendly" the areas are in North Fla for reasons that are totally dumbfounded. IT has little to do with the race or where the person was born, but what type of people you attract from elsewhere or grow locally.

Regardless, for those who like to blame So Fla for the crime problem, at least you can't blame Broward.

I went to offenses by county to make it easy to compare, but I gave you the main page so you can see all the stats.Notice that a LOT of NW Florida has really low crime. I was not denying at all that NW Fl is safer overall than South Florida or Central Florida. Also I do understand that most of the crimes are probably occuring in certain neighborhoods, just as what is true in most towns in the US.
Thanks so much! Going to the link now. You know your stuff

I think your list is wrong! Where is Ft. Myers/Lee County on your list? It is a known fact on city data that Ft. Myers has an extremely high crime rate.

Just kidding!

People say every city in Florida has high crime. People act as if SW FL is a hotbed for crime activity. Well, not one SW FL county made the list. Thanks for posting that!

LOL! You are right! Every time I see someone bemoaning the crime-ridden streets of Ft. Meyers, Naples, etc. on this board I just have to laugh a little. I've been contemplating taking up some stock in salt.

I was actually ranking the top 10 largest cities and counties by population, and ranking them in order by crime rate. SW FL did not have any of the largest cities or counties.
Florida average per 100k-4,632.0
Lee County-3,961.7 crimes per 100,000. Lee is pretty safe.
Collier County-2,319.2 crimes per 100,000. Collier is really safe!

Fort Myers Murder Rate-24.0 per 100,000. Nasty!
Overall CD Crime Index (avg is 325.2)-797.1. It was more dangerous than Lauderdale, Tampa, and St. Petes out of Floridas major cities.
