But if you read the fine print much of FL high ranking comes from funding equality. When it comes to actual academic acheivement FL ranks 24th.

Even so, "middle of the pack" nationally is a far cry from the "worst schools in the nation" meme that is often perpetuated on this board.

The schools in my area (Broward) are seriously deficient.

But, but, but, we don't "spend enough" on education like states like NY or NJ. Our teachers have to make $60 K+/year to have an effective education system.

Well even if it is just 24th, that's nice to hear. I had heard from one of my high schools teachers a couple years ago that we were ranked like 49th or something >.<

Last year and back we were ranked low 40's or near there.

Last year Florida was around 8th in Education Week:Quality Counts ranking
Year before that tied for 10th
