They claim it's safer, but do not explain what their data security and back policies are. For example, where do they keep backups? If it's in the same city (or even on the same coast) as the primary, that's a huge no-no because it means your backup can be destroyed by the same weather event that destroys the primary.

I wasn't going to post on this subject again, but something just hit me. I looked up what it costs for a duplicate title in other states. The first one that popped up was Hawaii. $5 bucks if you lose your title and need to replace it. Arizona charges $4 to replace a lost or stolen title. Tennessee charges $5.50 to mail it and $5.00 if you go in person. So why does Florida charge $75? Was it always $75 for a duplicate title? Here's a list from Geico. I do not know if this is accurate and up-to-date.

Taking advantage of old and lonely, very vulnerable and helpless folks inhabiting this part of the US? Like many other businesses do. This is scandalous.

Because their electronic title system is so advanced you can't use it to sell to a private party in state, nor can you use it to transfer title when out of state, not even if that other state also uses electronic titles.

I paid the couple of bucks and got my paper title. It's in my safe, which is permanently affixed to my slab. My house might get wiped out, but my safe would still be there.

I have never lost my title, but $75 seems absurd.

Also, in regards to "budget shortfalls", HONESTLY. How much is this going to save the state money.

Considering they just bought the CSX railroad in Orlando for $400 MILLION, are going to buy the Everglades BACK from US Sugar to the tune of like 5 BILLION, whatever petty amount that paper titles cost the state is trivial...

I see this is an old thread but it came up in my search.

We are moving from Pennsylvania to Florida. In PA we have paper titles. From the application to transfer title, I see that the default is electronic but I can request paper.

Any thoughts now that this has been in effect for awhile? Paper vs. electronic?

Thanks.

I like having my paper title. It's as simple as logging into the Florida website, selecting "Paper" for your title and paying the $4.50 fee to have it mailed.

I've got a paper title for an older car, but, sold my last one and bought the current one with an electronic title - no problems, but, went through a dealer. Not sure what happens if I try to sell to or buy from a private party - It seems like a paper title might be a 'comfort' to have.

Bought a new car, got the title printed right at the refistration desk for $10. We sold another car, stopped by the registration desk, again $10 and the printed out the hard copy of the electronic title.

Easy and safe.
