It's sooooo cold up here in WI and we wanted to vacation to FL for some warm temperatures (air and water). We have young kids so a decent water temperature is essential. Just how far down do we need to go to find warm water? We're looking for the closest possible city since we'd be driving. Thanks in advance!!!

Water temps are typically 10 degrees cooler than the air temps. So if it is 70 degrees outside then the water will be 60 degrees. With the way the weather temps have been lately it is hard to say how far south you would have to go. The Panhandle has been pretty cool this winter... I would say to be safe I suggest going as far south as Sanibel to be sure you will get in the water this time of the year.

I agree with going as far south as possible. Though its all the say down, I would actually consider the Keys. Anywhere south of about Vero may be bearable since the further south you go the closer you are to the Gulf Stream.

save all that driving time and gas... fly to Key West, shuttle to the hotel, shuttle to Duval St. and rent scooters to zip around on. They were renting for $15-$20 a day 3 weeks ago!

You'll never forget that trip... ever!
