Not so much. The areas with the apartment rentals tend to be decent areas.
There are a few rural spots and some small spots in downtown that are a little depressed (and have some crime issues), but I don't think you'll run across this in your search for rentals.

Places to rent in St. Augustine will be 30 to 45 minutes from Palatka, adding to your expenses, but you will have more choices. At one time I commuted from Palm Coast to Palatka. There are rental options there, but again, a 30 to 45 minute drive.
