I can not take another Chicago winter. Looking at moving to West coast of Florida Need a great public school system that has a good theater program for my daughter and good sports program for my son. They are 11 in 6th grade. Not to mention top rated academics. We live in a middle, maybe upper middle class suburb of Chicago,(Buffalo Grove), and would like to move somewhere similar. Planning on renting in the $1500-2000 range and then buying in the 300k range. Employment not an issue, I work from home and can do it from any location. Would like to be very close to a beach (walking or at least a bike ride distance).

Check out the Indian Rocks Beach/Belleair Beach/Belleair Shores area. They're wonderful beach communities with minimal commercial development (few highrises) and excellent schools. Seminole High School has been consistently "A" rated.

Check out Sarasota. Great schools here, and great beaches. If you live in or near our beautiful downtown, you can easily bike/jog over the Ringling Bridge to Lido Beach. There is also Siesta Key, with its award-winning beaches. You might post over in Sarasota forum for more info - SoFLGal is a regular poster with lots of useful info, especially regarding schools.
