Hello! I used to live in Jacksonville Florida, then moved to Oklahoma (and hated it) and am currently planning on moving to South Florida in the near future. I am strongly considering either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, but am not sure exactly where the best place for me would be.

I am a single female, 26 years old. I do not currently have a job lined up in South Florida, but will be taking the Florida Bar Exam this summer and applying for jobs. I was planning on finding some kind of part time job when I move like serving at a restaurant or cocktails.

I would like to be walking distance to restaurants/bars if possible. But I don't want to spend a fortune on rent if I don't have to either. Nightlife is very important to me.

Also, if I move to Miami, what area would you recommend for someone who will be single, renting, probably working in a bar, trying to meet new people, as well as applying for more permanent jobs in the process? THANKS in advance I really appreciate it!!

Definitely Fort Lauderdale as it's a bit safer and much less expensive than the neighborhoods in Miami you'd want to live in. The traditionally solid neighborhoods are the older sections between NE 62nd Street south to the 17th Street Causeway and east of 9th Ave. For your desire to be within walking distance to restaurants/bars/nightlife consider:

Poinsettia Heights (between Sunrise Blvd and Oakland Park Blvd) just west of US1/Federal Hwy.
Holiday Park (look at the many small rental buildings around the south and east side of the park)
Southport (east of US1, south of Ponce De Leon, north of the 17th St Causeway)

Good luck!
