Maybe you could try it for a short period with the intention of finding something else.

Are you armed? (you don't have to answer, but it's something to think about if you're not)

Hmm. Heres what I would do. Get friendly with the manager at your local Publix. They usually are friendly . Seriously, Publix is a decent company to work for.

Chris, I've read a lot of your posts...with 2 young children I wouldn't take the chance. If you need to work at night, why not try Publix like the OP said or Walmart? They have all different shifts and very flexible scheduling.
FYI - All 3 Circle Ks have been robbed in my area throughout the time I have lived here. I wouldn't do it...especially not at night. I don't live in Ocala, so I can't be of much help, but convenience stores always make me nervous. Some of the people that go in there at all hours of the night freak me out. I am usually scared going in by myself. That and gas stations. Maybe I've watched too much TV, like the vanishing...but that's another topic altogether.

Default short story...

When I was younger, I lived in Wilton Manors and worked at the
7-11 store. I was working the 3rd shift alone and I had my training and I knew about the $20.00 in the cash register is the alarm. I am female, hard of hearing but very alert. One night I was robbed and I pulled the $20. and within less than five minutes the swat team was there with guns - big stuff, very armed and VERY scary. I had forgotten that I took off my smock because it was it getting in my way. Here I am behind the counter, no smock with machine rifles pointing in my face. I had my hands up and I hollered "I work here!" and the eyes looked down to my shirt and I realized "oh no!!"
So they all asked who is the manager and give swat team his phone number.
Whew! I was terrrriffieedd!!!! I was shaking so badly that I went down bending my knees, I couldn't stand up. The bad guy got away and the manager gave me points against my judgement for not wearing the smock and yes I could have gotten shot if I hadn't had my hands up. I never worked in the stores again. The swat team is quick and serious business.

All that for minimum wage.

Point is, some people make big money to risk their lives, while you were in one of the most high risk jobs there is for minimum wage.

I wouldn't even run a convenience store in Wilton Manors or Fort Lauderdale...let alone work at one. Too damn risky.

Working in convenience stores anywhere in American can be dangerous. It's not just Florida. They are very dangerous and low-paying positions. Fresh out of high school I worked in a position like this and was robbed on the job. Not a good thing. If you need a part job like this look to a grocery store. Publix is supposed to be a decent place to work at as far as stores go.
